Mbombela for ‘Dorp van die jaar’ – what is it about?
What you need to know about 'Dorp van die jaar.'
The long and short of it:
Who qualifies?
A town with less than 500 000 residents. (In this case – the old ‘Nelspruit’ part of the larger Mbombela.)
How did we get this far?
The town was nominated by sms between Feb 15 and Feb 21.
Towns from nine regions are considered for the final:
Gauteng and North West
Northern Cape
Eastern Cape
Western Cape
Free State
Limpopo
Mpumalanga
KwaZulu-Natal
Namibia
From each region, the three towns most nominated qualify for the semi-finals. This year, the towns are Mbombela, White River and Witbank.
We have a week (Wednesday March 8 to Tuesday March 14 @ 14:00) to vote for our town. The town with the most votes goes to the national final.
Kwêla will visit all nine finalist towns.
On May 24, the nine towns will be on TV. The public will get to vote for the winner. The town of the year will win R1 million in marketing value from KykNet as well as a helluva party. A 30 min advertisement of the town will also be made by Homebrew films.
