UPDATE: Road on R40 opened after accident

An accident on the R40 left one dead, one seriously injured and a chemical spill on the road this morning.

13:40: The road on the R40 from White River towards Hazyview is open once again after an accident occurred, but motorists are urged to use alternative routes.

12:34: The scene has been closed and there is was no throughfare as it is considered a hazmat scene until the chemical spill has been decontaminated.

12:19: Traffic is moving slowly on the R40 after an accident between a truck and a car occurred. One person has been killed and the other is in a serious condition.

ER24 took the patient to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Police on the scene are busy cleaning up a chemical spill which happened after the collision. Eyewitness reports have been taken to the White River Police Station where a case has been opened.
