Were you there? Did we take your picture?

On Saturday, the Nelspruit Post Pub crawl took the city by storm.

More than 200 high-spirited pub crawlers took over the city’s social scene, dressed in funky team wear. The crawl lasted ten hours, but was a hot topic among locals all weekend. Those who were there, could not stop talking about it.
The challenge was not for sissies: participants had to visit 12 pubs in 10 hours.

Some did so solo, others had formed duos and some teams consisted of more than 10 members.
Armed with pub-crawl maps, locals made their way between Cicada, Marlin Pub & Grill, Adega, Sportsbar, Kuzuri, My House, Dros, The Lapa Pub & Bistro, The Pub, Stoep, Jock Pub & Grill and Deja Vu Club Café. The prize-giving and afterparty was held at the latter.

Participants had their maps stamped twice at each establishment. One stamp proved that they had been there, while another attested to the map holder having enjoyed a “happy moment”.

This mini-happy hour made specials available only to pub crawlers.

Stamped maps were submitted at Deja Vu and used in lucky draws during which prizes, including vouchers at participating establishments, were dished out.

The pub crawler of all pub crawlers was pensioner, Marlene van der Merwe. The classy woman made quite an impression. She was dressed in red and wore a black scarf. Pearl earrings and a pendant necklace added to her polished appearance. “Ja, ek het selfs die shooters gedrink,” she added with a laugh.

The best-spirited team was a group of women who donned pink hats and feather boas. Elaine Blignaut, Landa Louw, Sonnet Layson, Sherees van der Sandt, Lasea Swift and Landi Basson sang “Hoe lykit, hoe lykit, ek en djy naked,” laughing heartily while collecting their prize.

Best-dressed winners included the “Puss in Boots” team and “Fifty shades” duo Barbara Ferreira-Netto and Natasha Kruger.

After the prize-giving, hundreds of crawlers partied into the night.

They also celebrated Deja Vu’s 300-square metre expansion.

Two dance floors and two DJs attributed to the energetic vibe that will have locals talking for days to come.
