A prominent resident passes away
One of the oldest and most prominent Barberton residents, Evelyn Magaret Moonsamy (90) sadly passed away last Wednesday.

Evelyn was born to George and Lucy Masher in Barberton.
Evelyn sadly succumbed to pneumonia and heart failure on Wednesday evening at M-Care in Mbombela, about two months after being hospitalised.

She was first hospitalised at Mediclinic Barberton for a week and then she was transferred to Mediclinic Nelspruit with pneumonia and heart problems. She was laid to rest on Saturday July 1 at Barberton Cemetery.
Evelyn attended the Barberton Indian and Coloured School, but left before completing matric to assist her parents in the laundry service they ran in town, along with her siblings.
Evelyn was also a Sunday school teacher, member of the mothers’ union and Anglican Women’s Fellowship.
Many young ladies were mentored by her when she led the Girls’ Guide Movement.
She married (the late) Dorsamy Terence Moonsamy in 1951. Their happy union was blessed with three children.
They are Daryl, principal at Valencia Combined School in Mbombela, Kevin, acting CEO for technical at PRASA in Johannesburg and Adele, a retired supervisor for electronic online banking at FNB in Johannesburg.
“Her infectious laughter, sense of humor and fun-making will be missed by all whose lives she touched,” said her son Daryl.
Evelyn is survived by her two sons, one daughter, a daughter-in-law and a son-in-law, Sharon and Suren, grandchildren Jeffrey, Christopher and Dinika, great-granddaughter, Saoirse; as well as her four remaining sisters-in-law, Violet, Olga, Margaret and Clarise and their families; and many cousins and friends and their families.
