Road’s put cops’ lives at risk
A provincial traffic officer was stabbed while on duty last week.

TONGA – The Department for Community Safety, Security and Liaison said this week that three officials were performing their normal duties on the D797 between Tonga and KaMhlushwa last Friday.
A man had allegedly threatened passengers of a minibus taxi he was travelling in and the driver dropped him off on the side of the road.
When the traffic officials refused to give him taxi fare, he allegedly stabbed the one. He also threw stones at them.
One of the officers shot him in the arm to subdue him and he was arrested. The stabbed officer was seriously injured and taken to a hospital in Mbombela. The suspect was treated at Tonga Hospital under police guard.
The department said he would appear in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court on charges of assault with the intention to do grievous bodily harm, possession of a dangerous weapon and malicious damage to property as soon as he was physically fit to do so.
