Hit-and-run leaves man badly injured

He was transported to Rob Ferreira Hospital.

An unnamed man was badly injured after he was involved in a hit-and-run incident on Saturday morning. ACS Security’s Johan Kriel said they received a message on the Zello channel about a man running around the R40 trying to get the public’s attention.

Kriel said they immediately sent out a response vehicle. Their officer found a man injured outside the city towards Barberton.

“When he arrived there, he found a man lying on the ground. He could see that he was badly injured and his legs were also broken. He immediately called for an ambulance.”

Kriel said a Hi-Tech medical services ambulance arrived and treated the patient. “While the ambulance and paramedics were treating the patient, the female driver arrived with the police.”

He said she had told them she could not help bumping him as he ran in front of her vehicle. She was afraid to stop,as she was not sure what had happened, so she immediately drove to the Nelspruit Police Station and reported the accident.

Hi-Tech Security medical services manager, Freek Esterhuizen said they treated the patient for fractures to his upper and lower leg, a fractured arm and injuries to his face. He said the man was seriously injured but in a stable condition. “We transported him to Rob Ferreira Hospital.”

Police confirmed that regarding crime in the city, only four cases of house burglaries were reported over the weekend. According to Capt Dawie Pretorius, house break-ins were down but theft out of motor vehicles was still a concern for police.

He said that items like laptops, cellphones and iPads were still being stolen out of vehicles after 13 cases were reported this weekend. “This is worrying, as we keep warning the public to be vigilant and not to leave expensive items in their vehicles. This creates opportunities for criminals.”

Pretorius added that the house break-ins which occurred were in West Acres, Koraalboom Street and Anneke Street.
