School principals get lessons in management

Many teachers become principals with limited management skills, PFP hopes to change that by partnering them with those in management to learn to run their schools better

MBOMBELA – Partners for Possibility (PFP) is turning school principals into better managers.

Over the past year, corporate role players partnered with six local schools. They assisted the principals to manage the schools to reach their full potential.
The principals attended training sessions and came up with ideas to improve their schools.

This was the first time the initiative was implemented in Mpumalanga.
Enkhokhokweni Primary School, Mandlesive Secondary School, Entfonjeni Primary School, Khumbula High School and Somcuba Primary School participated.

The principals were honoured at a PFP ceremony at Kuzuri last Tuesday.
“Six months ago many of the principals were maths teachers with no history in management,” said Di Atherton, PFP Mpumalanga facilitator.
The principals and their mentors gave presentations of what they learned and implemented.

“It was a valuable learning experience, and we have since had an increase in our learners’ performance,” said Duduzile Madonsela, principal of Enkhokhokhweni in KaBokweni.20″The year has ended but the partnership continues as we still have projects that are ongoing,” said Thoko Makama of Khumbula. There has also been an increase in parental involvement in the schools’ activities.
