Lodge owner catches suspected burglar
Upon returning to the lodge another suspect jumped out in front of him and fled towards the R40

Mabevonne Self Catering Guest Lodge’s owner Gavin Fourie managed to track a suspected burglar and catch him on his own. The guest lodge is situated outside the city on the R40.
Fourie said it all started on Wednesday when they were robbed of a TV.
“On Thursday I searched the area for tracks and tell-tale signs showing which direction they were coming onto the property from.”
He said on Friday night when he was patrolling the property he heard a noise coming from the garage. “As I got there, the suspect saw me and started to run. I gave chase.
“I chased after him over the fence and into our neighbours’ property and even the next property, but he managed to escape.”
Upon returning to the lodge another suspect jumped out in front of Fourie and fled towards the R40. “I chased after him as he ran across the road into the reeds. That is where I caught him.”
ACS Security owner, Johan Kriel said he was driving towards town when he spotted a bakkie parked on the side of the road on the R40.
“I stopped to investigate what it was doing there, as many suspects leave bakkies to load with stolen goods nearby.”
Kriel said he then spotted Fourie with the suspect. “I assisted him with arresting the man, who was taken to the police station.”
