Pedestrian killed on N4 near Tenbosch turn-off

Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a pedestrian was killed on the N4 yesterday afternoon.

HECTORSPRUIT – A person was killed after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the N4 near the Tenbosch turn-off around 13:30 yesterday.

Const Natacia Mbuyane of Komatipoort SAPS confirmed that a case of culpable homicide was being investigated.

This was one of only two accidents that were reported on the N4 between Matsulu and Komatipoort over the long-weekend. The other occurred near Matsulu in the Crocodile Gorge near midnight last night and involved two vehicles.

Traffic volumes were quite high, with most of the traffic moving Eastbound towards Mozambique on Friday. According to TRAC, between 521 and 820 vehicles per hour moved through the Nkomazi Toll Plaza, while Monday’s Westbound numbers were between 501 and 643.

The Lebombo Border Post reportedly had delays of several hours, with long queues of people waiting to enter South Africa.

Motorists planning to visit Mozambique are advised that roadworks are still continuing between Ressano Garcia and the Moamba intersection. Three Stop and Go’s are in place, which could result in slight traffic delays.
