Community member makes bracelets for Mienke
Not wanting the fact that she did not have a pink item of clothing deter her from getting involved, Edean Prinsloo is making arm bracelets in honour of Mienke

MBOMBELA – When resident Edean Prinsloo discovered she did not have a pink item of clothing in her closet to support the Pink for Mienke Wednesdays, she decided to think outside the box.
She decided to make bracelets instead, which she would give away.
Baby Mienke is currently undergoing rehabilitation at a hospital in Auckland Park, Johannesburg, after suffering brain damage when she choked on a bottle in Mbombela.
Since then the Facebook group, Please Pray For Mienke, has amassed more than 29 000 followers. Groups have also started organising the Wear Pink for Mienke initiative on Wednesdays.
Prinsloo later thought it over, and decided to sell them in order to raise money for the Mienke Mulder Trust Fund. At first Prinsloo thought that she would make 200 bracelets to sell, but upon announcing her sale, has received orders from other towns – shooting her number up substantially.

“I don’t think there is a town I have not received an order from. I even got orders from Australia. I didn’t think it would get so big. I get goosebumps just thinking about it.”
Prinsloo, an assistant at Sahara African Aviation at the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, makes the bracelets after hours at home. Her family has also pulled together to help complete the orders. “I wouldn’t be able to do this all by myself.”
The Mienke bracelets cost R25, and can be ordered from Prinsloo on 081-739-8741. The Mienke Mulder Trust Fund: Standard Bank, Branch code 051001, account number 282 853 952, reference M. Mulder.
