Nelspruit police spokesman Capt Dawie Pretorius said police opened an enquiry docket as no formal complaint had been received from the public.

MBOMBELA – Police are investigating the shooting incident at Jock Pub & Grill after a patron fired shots in the establishment’s parking lot on Friday night.
Sources were unable to confirm or deny rumours that the shooter was out on parole at the time of the incident.

The shooter has been banned for life from Jock. According to a witness, who asked not to be named, two men got into a fight with a number of other patrons in the bar area. As the source was leaving, he heard the one man tell his friend to “fetch the gun”. The friend did so, and was walking back from the parking area when he had a change of heart and returned the gun to his car.

The source phoned J&M Security and another phoned Hi-Tech Security. To help his friend, the man who had asked him to get the gun retrieved it and fired shots.
Another witness told Lowvelder that she and some of her friends saw a man with a gun as they were pulling into a parking space.
As they entered, they saw the same man without the gun. Later she saw him being assaulted in the parking lot before she heard shots. She saw the two men driving away from the scene as Hi-Tech arrived.
Another man who was present claimed that there was an altercation between the culprit and another customer in the bar. The culprit allegedly became very aggressive with the bouncer when he tried to escort him out. He was eventually escorted to the parking lot.
According to a statement released by Jock, the man was removed from the premises after an altercation with staff and customers. He and his associates reportedly continued to harass individuals. While leaving by car, the one allegedly fired three shots into the air. The manager on duty at the time, Maggie Chambale, said both men have been banned for life from Jock:
“We have spoken with the SAPS and will be cooperating with them in their investigation. The safety and and well-being of our customers is Jock’s foremost priority. We take security seriously, with a contingent of five bouncers, two security guards on premises and Hi-Tech armed response. We will continue to fight criminals and hooligans who have no respect for the good people who call the Jock home.”
Pretorius has asked that any witnesses or complainants contact Col Mbuli with information on the incident.
