Penryn hosts adventure

Penryn hosted delegates from across the world for a weekend of South African bushveld adventure.

MBOMBELA – Penryn College recently played host to 31 international delegates for a weekend of adventurous fun in the Lowveld, ahead of the Round Square International Conference held in Cape Town until October 5.

Penryn welcomed the delegates from around the world at KMI Airport on Monday September 25, and whisked them away for two days of getting to know Mpumalanga as part of a pre-conference tour.

Round Square is an international schools organisation, spanning more than 50 countries, which stands for character education with the hope of changing the world for all of its inhabitants.

Penryn, a proud member, hosted the guests from schools including Collingwood School, in Canada, Marvelwood and Saint Andrews in the US, and MLC and St Phillip’s College in Australia.

The guests travelled from far and wide to experience the slice of paradise that South Africans enjoy here in Mpumalanga.

On the first day the delegates were taken on a tour of the Penryn campus, and ended off the evening with a drum circle under the African stars.

The following day involved adventure activities and close-up encounters with some of Africa’s most impressive wildlife during an overnight stay in the Kruger National Park.

They enjoyed local cuisine, with biltong and pap being the favourites, before falling asleep to the sounds of the African bush.

According to marketing manager, Gill Smyth, Penryn was honoured to have hosted these international visitors and to have acted as ambassadors for the province and country.

Smyth said Penryn could not have hosted such a successful tour without the help and generosity of some local establishments and thanked them for sharing their South African hospitality.
