GSDM marks begin of new era with aplomb

Gert Sibande District Municipality launched its water quality laboratory’s accreditation on July 28

The launch was graced by councillors of surrounding districts and executive mayors. The municipal manager, Mr Cijimpi Habile, said the accreditation couldn’t have come at a better time.

“Today we are rejoicing and singing a different tune. Indeed, freedom has come and we are seeing its fruit.

Stakeholders are addressed by the Speaker.

We are here to mark a beginning of a new era where we believe that working relations with our customers will be intensified and established. It is a boost of confidence knowing that we are here in a good standing with the South African National Accreditation Standard System which is responsible for accrediting laboratories in the country.

We are proud to be running the fi rst laboratory of this kind in the district and province. We will soon move beyond
our borders to other two districts in the long term.

Stakeholders and company owners were encouraged to sample their water for health purposes and delivering quality water.

There is also no need to take our samples to other provinces as we now have our own,” explained Habile. He also mentioned how some of their customers were hesitant to partner with the laboratory.
