Give us your brief biography

Majabula: I’m Jabulani “Majabula” Ngwenya (34) from Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal. I moved to Turffontein, where I was introduced to radio, when I was volunteering at Africa Shine FM for 12 years.

Ntombilicious: I am Ntonbikayise Sibiya (22) better known as Ntombilicious. I was born and raised in Mashishing. I started and finished school at Wem Combined School in KaBokweni, Mbombela.

After seven days of not airing any news and daily shows due to internal dispute, Mash Fm is now back on air.

Tell us about your show

Majabula: The breakfast show gets the family up and going in the mornings and is filled with information, edutainment and entertainment. The Mash Breakfast Show is the “A Team”.

Ntombilicious: From the first voices you hear in the morning, to the lunch box you open later at work or school – that’s what The Mash Breakfast Show brings every weekday with Majabula setting the tone for the day and deciding on the agenda moving into the week. From sport, breaking news and current affairs from across the globe, “Fresh Breakfast” gives a fresh perspective on the workings of the world. The energy is infectious and the content is as mind-opening as it is leading. Catch us live every Monday to Friday from 06:00 to 10:00 only on Mash FM.

When did you develop a love of radio?

Majabula: I fell in love with radio at a young age. My family did not own a radio during that time.

Ntombilicious: I became hooked on radio two years ago. I had a friend who used to tell me about Pearl Modiadie, who is a South African television presenter, radio DJ, actress and producer best known to TV audiences for presenting the SABC 1 music talk show Zaziwa, and I started following her. I developed new ideas and she got me inspired to be a radio presenter.

What can listeners expect from your show?

Majabula: They can expect to be informed, educated and entertained while developing as an individual.

Ntombilicious: Well, listeners can expect to be educated, entertained and be motivated by the show.

What challenges are you experiencing?

Majabula: The greatest challenge is that our listeners do not have knowledge of the role of a community radio and they have a lack of participation.

Ntombilicious: So far I think the challenge is our community lacks knowledge and understanding of radio broadcasting.

What is your favourite quote?

Majabula: “Modimo O Phala Baloyi” meaning God is greater than wizards.

Ntombilicious: “I am the master of my own destiny.”
