The event was hosted by Barberton at the local golf club last Thursday.
A total of 51 Sage members descended on the Barberton Golf Club from towns around the Lowveld to participate in this well-known tournament for golfers over the age of 60. They battled it out in an 18-hole game.

Their monthly events are usually held on the third Thursday of the month. The next event will be held at Sabie River Bungalows on June 21.

Banks Nkosi, a local who participated in the golf day, is inviting elderly golfers to join them.
“The joining fee is R240 per year and it cost R220 to play per event. Even the disabled like me (he has a prosthetic leg) can participate. We play all over Mpumalanga,” said Nkosi.
He also called youngsters, especially women, willing to hone their skills on the golf course, to join Mbombela Golf Development.
He said they would train them every Tuesday to Friday for free. “Women are scarce in this sport. That’s why we encourage more women to join the development. We train them for free and all equipment is available,” said Nkosi.
