Marlet wins Lowveld Singles

Marlet Ireland, from Bungalows Hazyview, won the Lowveld Singles competition on January 5 and 6 at Nelspruit Bowling Club.

The players were divided into eight sections with three players in each. The format was a round robin to start. The conditions of play had a time limit, and the first bowler who got 21 points was declared the winner. Ireland played against Rhona Pienaar and won 21/14. In the second round she beat Annetjie Moller from Lydenburg 21/12 and finally beat Estelle Venter 21/11. Christie Cross from Hazyview also did very well by beating Martie Janse van Vuuren 21/19, Andri van der Berg 21/18 and lastly she beat Marina Smith 21/14. Both Bungalows players did very well.

Ireland had six points with a shot aggregate of 26, which took her to the quarter-finals. Unfortunately Cross also had six points with a shot aggregate of 12, which did not take her to the next round. Ireland played Van der Berg and made it to the next round with a winning score of 21/15. In the semi-finals she met Elinor Storkey and scraped through with a winning score of 21/20. Ireland made it to the finals. She had the upper hand and beat Annemarie van der Ham from Barberton 21/9.
