Lilydale brags with new creche

For the handover ceremony SANParks nursery donated fruit trees that were planted by the officer commanding.

A crèche initiated as a community outreach project by 4 South African Infantry Battalion (4 SAI) during their deployment in the joint tactical headquarters Mpumalanga Area of Responsibility, was handed over to the community two weeks ago.

At the time 4 SAI had identified Lilydale Day Care in the Hazyview area where the crèche, a community day care, received no funding from government. Caregivers were volunteers who received no income at all and only a small income was generated by the school fees the parents contributed, which was mainly utilised to purchase food.

Alpha Company Commander of 4 SAI and his whole company then donated funds to build a permanent structure for the crèche and also donated some chairs and tables. However, due to the fact that their duties ended in September 2018, they could not finish the building of the structure.

When 9 South African Infantry Battalion arrived, they took over the project and managed to complete the permanent structure using their own funds by contributions of R200 per member.

For the handover ceremony on February 15, SANParks nursery donated fruit trees that were planted by the officer commanding Col Martin Gopane and Lt Col Riaan Oberholster.

An anonymous SAPS colonel also donated a playground area to the crèche.
