Dagga confiscated and attempted murder suspect arrested by local SAPS

A number of arrests were made by SAPS White River in the last two weeks.

A local man in his early 40’s was arrested last week for the attempted murder of his son-in-law.

According to information at the police’s disposal, it is alleged that the man had an argument with his son-in-law and a fight ensued between the two.

The son-in-law started to assault the father-in-law, then the latter drew his firearm and fired three shots at his son-in-law. The younger man was hit in his neck, right upper arm and lower abdomen.

While the suspect tried to run away, the gun went off again and hit an employee of a nearby cash loan office in her left leg as she was closing the door to go off-duty. Both victims were taken to hospital.

The suspect was later arrested and his licensed firearm, a 9mm Norinco, was confiscated by the police. In separate incidents, three men aged between 24 and 33 were arrested for dealing in dagga.

In the first incident, police were conducting a stop-and-search operation in the central business area when they searched four males in a bottle store. One man (24), a foreign national, was found with six packets of dagga. When asked for his passport he mentioned that he left it where he stays.

The police went to his residence in White River to verify his passport. On arrival he opened his door and the room that he was renting smelled of dagga. When asked about it, he showed the police were he kept it and a bag of dagga was confiscated.

In the second incident, during a stop-and-search operation conducted by members, two men were searched at the taxi rank and packets of dagga found in their possession.

These suspects appeared in White River Magistrate Court the previous Friday.

SAPS White River also conducted a drug search at Angels Park Academy, when information was received that the learners were buying dagga from the taxi rank. Hence most of the arrests were from the taxi rank.
