Our Mozambican neighbours need your help to get through

There are drop-off points available where residents can drop off items for Mozambique at the Mbombela Civic Centre, 1 Nel Street, Mbombela.

The Mozambican Consulate in the city issued a list of items the people affected will need
• Non-perishable foods
• Rice, flour, sugar, oil, miscellaneous canned food
• Clothing
• Shoes, blankets, linen, mosquito nets
• School supplies
• Exercise books, pencils, rubbers, sharpeners, books
• Hygiene and cleaning items
• Water purifier, soap, candles, phosphorous matches.

Another drop-off point for donations is at Lowveld Media, Riverside Mall, Hi-Q and Sizabantu, situated at 20 Van Bergen Street in the industrial area near the traffic department.

People are also welcome to use Nelspruit Methodist Church as a drop-off facility. The office closes at 12:30, but the caretaker Thulani Mbuyazi is around until 15:30 to receive goods. Otherwise people can contact Michelle Ingram on 083-268-0230.

Mercy Air is flying out regularly to the affected areas. Waterborne diseases and malaria are flourishing in the area at the moment in the stagnant, contaminated flood waters. So far with public support, they have been able to distribute 20 tons of food and clean water, rescue people, and do survey flights assessing where help is needed. Their priority for the upcoming weeks is re-establishing destroyed medical centres and distributing food to those still isolated and in need.
