Teenage murder accused found dead in police cells

The Pienaar community was shocked by the rape and murder of Nomthandazo Mbatha last week.

PIENAAR – Nomthandazo Mbatha was a grade 12 learner at Ncakini Secondary School.

Following her death and the discovery of her body in a shallow grave, a fellow pupil was arrested.

In more shocking news, the 17-year-old accused was found hanging in the Pienaar Police Station holding cells on Saturday morning, according to Col Mtsholi Bhembe.

“The discovery was made during a routine cell search by members of the police just before 06:00 yesterday morning,” said Bhembe.

He could not comment on whether the accused was alone in the holding cells or whether there were other detainees who may have witnessed the apparent suicide.
