Jacques will be remembered by many

Jacques Nel had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and self-improvement.

Jan Hendrik Nel, better known as Jacques, tragically passed away in a motor vehicle accident on the R40 between Casterbridge and Palm Motors on Tuesday March 19.

Jacques was a senior horticulturist at City of Mbombela’s Parks and Cemeteries division in White River for a few years before he was appointed as manager of City of Mbombela’s parks and cemeteries division.

Jacques had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and self-improvement. Coupled with a phenomenal memory, this thirst for knowledge equipped him for success in the many demanding roles he was to fulfil during his career.

He was a kind and humble person with a passion for horticulture and people who served the City of Mbombela and its residents proudly for 19 years. He was very passionate and dedicated to his work and family.

He loved and was loved by a multitude of people and he will be dearly missed by his family, friends and colleagues.

Contrary to previous reports, the accident was not caused due to speeding, reckless driving or the overtaking on a solid line, the family said. As per an affidavit of an eyewitness that was travelling behind Jacques for several kilometres, he was driving very responsibly until his vehicle suddenly veered over into the lane of oncoming traffic were it collided head on with a bus, which claimed his life.
