Local word artists prepare for slam league event

The former hosted poets from various countries such as China, Denmark, Hong Kong, the USA and Poland.

Words in My Mouth will host yet another exciting Slam League. The event will be held on April 27 at Blue Gate Tea Garden, 46 Ehmke Street.

They recently had two events on March 31 and April 5.

The organisation is also known as Words In My Mouth Poetry Slam. It is a poetry-based organisation that offers a platform that caters for musicians, rappers and painters.

According to Menzi Mkhonza, the founder and facilitator, they have three sessions in a month.

“The first session is called Open Mic/Slam. This is for new poets who want share their words. If a person is good, we then offer them a workshop to sharpen their skills. It is held every first Friday of the month.

“The second one is called Elite Poets for people who think their poetry is good. We also have a panel discussion after their performance, held at Exclusive Book at i’langa Mall every last Thursday of the month.

“The third is called Slam League and is held every last Saturday of the month at Blue Gate Garden,” he explained.

These sessions give people the opportunity to share their talent. This organisation is partnered with E3 – Educate, Empower and Enlighten. E3 is a public benefit organisation that was born in Mbombela.
