Cyclone Kenneth could be strongest storm to hit Mozambique

Cyclone Kenneth which is currently a CAT 4 but is expected to upgrade to  CAT 5 before it reaches land at 19:00.

Weather SA forecaster Wayne Venter said the wind gusts were at 305 kilometers per hour.  “The storm is smaller than Idai, but more intense. We are expecting more rain and more damage during this storm.”

He added that the storm is expected to be the strongest cyclone to ever hit the Mozambican and southern Tanzanian coast. The cyclone is expected to make landfall in the district of Palma.

Heavy rains for the next four days are also expected in Nacala, Memba, Erati, Namapa, Mozambique Island, Mussoril and Monapo districts in the province of Nampula, northern Mozambique.
