One dead in horrific accident between a truck and bakkie
An official confirmed that the accident had taken place, adding that attempts were being made to identify the driver of the bakkie
The R37, which leads from Mbombela to Sabie and Lydenburg, was the scene of a horrific accident which claimed the life of one motorist on Monday.
According to the provincial safety, security and liaison spokesman, Moeti Mmusi, the accident occurred at about 12:30 yesterday and involved a truck and bakkie.
“I can confirm the accident in which the male driver of the bakkie collided head-on with a truck. The driver of the bakkie died on the scene and the truck driver, who was travelling alone, too, was uninjured.”

Mmusi said information remained sketchy and the deceased motorist’s identity had not been confirmed yet. “Unfortunately, we have not verified his identity, just that he appears to have died on impact.”
He added an investigation into the cause of the accident is underway, and no other information has been ascertained at the time of going to press.
“At this stage we are unable to say exactly what the cause of the accident was, but investigations are continuing.”

The bakkie was a crumpled wreck after the accident, which occurred near the Brondal Power Station, and attempts are being made to identify the driver so his next of kin can be notified.
