Young ones learn about chimpanzees

The pupils were told that the sanctuary is for chimps that were abused and used as attractions.

Grade threes from Numbi Primary recently went on an educational outing to Chimp Eden in the Umhloti Nature Reserve just outside Mbombela.

There they were absolutely fascinated by the chimps’ intelligence and learned more about them, such as the fact that chimpanzees are considered to be the closest relative to humans, and that they are listed on the endangered species list, because in the wild they may be extinct within the next 10 to 20 years.

The pupils were told that the sanctuary is for chimps that were abused and used as attractions, but that they now have the opportunity to live a happy life.

And while the children were learning more about them, the chimpanzees at Chimp Eden took their time to ponder on the looks of their visitors.
