The greens see great weekend golf
About 300 golfers participated over the three days.
Earlier in September the three-day Hornbill Classic Golf Tournament was well supported by players and sponsors.
The morning and afternoon fields were filled with local players and players of local retail, as well with support of national sponsors and players from all over South Africa.
About 300 golfers participated over the three days.
This year was a special one, as Kruger Park Lodge Golf Course had opened a new 18th hole – a challenging island green, which the players had to try and conquer. The quest was not easy and the players were even challenged to give the new 18th hole a new name.
Many were suggested and the name competition was won by Irene Verwey, who suitably suggested it being named Try Again Island.
During all three days a beautiful display of goods by sponsors could be seen around the pro-shop.
A bed shop’s prizes for the raffle even included a queen-sized bed. There were also accommodation prizes and the famous wheelbarrow filled with liquor.
Even in rainy conditions, the players could receive sponsored drinks and sweets on the sixth hole.
The halfway house and all three night dinners were catered for by a restaurant on the premises.
The first night saw a prizegiving and dinner in an informal get-together in the garden of the main building with a finger food and canapé buffet.
On the cold rainy Friday evening all teams had to squeeze in to have a potjiekos evening in the lapa and on the Saturday night a wine tasting could be enjoyed. It started with a spectacular show by local dance school, Tempo.
The women and girls performed a show of at least 20 minutes to entertain the players and partners who enjoyed the plated dinners of prawns and lamb shanks.
Prizes were handed out to 10 places per day, besides some individual prizes.
