Two men caught with rifles and home-made silencers

Two men were arrested after they were found in possession of illegal high-calibre hunting rifles with home-made silencers close to the Numbi Gate on Tuesday evening.

The police’s Mpumalanga Tracking Team followed up on information received from a tip-off. The two suspects were intercepted in their white Corsa bakkie, on the R538 road between Calcutta and KaBokweni.

The two rifles, along with the silencers, were found inside the vehicle behind one of the seats. Both firearms were allegedly unlicensed with the serial numbers filed off.

One was a .375 hunting rifle, and the other a .458 hunting rifle.

The driver and the passenger were arrested and are expected to be charged with the possession of illegal firearms.
At the time of going to press the outcome of their court appearance was not yet known.
