D533 road to Strydomblok totally deteriorated

MEC of public works is well aware of poor condition of this road

MALALANE – Various complaints about the D533 that connects Malalane and Hectorspruit with the Strydomblok and Jeppes Reef roads, reached Corridor Gazette’s office. Last week our correspondent went to investigate these complains and took pictures of the road in question. On her way back one of her tyres burst, and the proof was in the pudding.
Corridor Gazette spoke to Cllr Mariette Preddy of the DA and she confirmed that a commitment was made by the MEC of public works, roads and transport, Gillion Mashego, to repair the D533 that has deteriorated to a stage where motorists have to drive on the gravel next to what is supposed to be the tar road.

The DA took it upon themselves to put questions to the MEC, enquiring about the road.

In his reply, the MEC highlighted that he is well aware that the road is in poor condition and there are plans to rehabilitate it in the 2019/20 financial year. The state of this road is not only affecting local residents, but the economic activity for businesses.

Most of the farmers residing near this road have wives who work in Malalane and children who attend school here. There are also numerous lodges on this road.

The DA said they are aware that there is no budget for any design or planning for construction on the road. On top of that, the maintenance on infrastructure, like roads, happens less frequently. They said they look forward to ensuring that all SA citizens benefit from basic services.
