Mataffin man allegedly beaten to death by four assailants
The motive for the murder of 37-year-old Arkaline Mhlongo remains a mystery to the police who have launched an investigation into his death

Arkaline Mhlongo (37) from Mataffin was murdered on Monday evening. According to a police statement, Mhlongo’s lifeless body was left on the street after he was attacked by four men.
The police report indicates that, prior to his murder, the suspects had gone to the victim’s home in search of him.
“According to information at the police’s disposal, four males had gone to Mhlongo’s house earlier and found his brother and the victim’s girlfriend. Mhlongo was not in the house at that time. The group allegedly proceeded to draw firearms, discharging a number of shots and breaking windows,” the police statement read.

On hearing that he was not at home, they moved on with their search.
“They proceeded to a nearby tavern where they found Mhlongo and dragged him outside. The suspects allegedly assaulted the victim severely outside.
“His lifeless body was later found on the street. The police were dispatched to the scene. He was covered in blood and
it appeared as though he had been hit with stones.”

At this stage of the investigation, the motive for the murder remains unknown. A case of murder, attempted murder and malicious damage to property is being investigated and no arrests into the senseless killing had been made at the time of going to press.
