Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency to implement tariff increases

Tourists wishing to visit some popular attractions in the Lowveld and on the Panorama Route will have to fork out a bit more from December 1.

The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) has announced they will implement an increase in the entry fees at its various nature reserves around the province from that date.

CEO Johannes Nobunga said the increase is based on a 4,5 per cent inflation rate and is valid for all product offerings in provincial nature reserves. He said this increase in tariffs allows them to improve the facilities and the viewpoints at all the main nature reserves, and provide visitors with the best possible experience.

“The MTPA is governed by the MTPA Act of 2005, which obliges the agency to progressively generate its own revenue collection. It is therefore important to note that the income in general will be used for continuous upgrading of infrastructure at our nature reserves,” Nobunga said.

All tariffs will be charged in South African rand and where applicable, will be per person. Tariffs will continue to be increased according to the inflation rate annually.

Entry to places like God’s Window and the Pinnacle would then amount to R20 per person for adults and R15 for children and pensioners older than 60 years.

Lone Creek Falls, one of the attractions that will cost more to visit.

At the Potholes an adult would pay R65 and the others R25. A visit to Swadini will cost an adult R35 per day and children and pensioners R20.

These are tariffs for high season, which is from October to April. From May to September (low season) lesser tariffs apply.
