Local art gains a wider audience

Ten artistically talented learners from Penryn had their artworks displayed at Tom’s Gallery in Johannesburg recently.
This is after the gallery approached the school to commission 50 art blocks before the annual Mpumalanga Show.

The learners did not waste time and put paint to the art blocks before applying their artistic talents to the canvas. In no time the blank canvases were turned into veritable masterpieces which were on display for the duration of the Mpumalanga Show.

Celebrated South African artist, Nathi Ngulube, selected 10 of the 50 commissioned works to be exhibited at the gallery in Johannesburg in the company of professional artworks by the best of artistic and creative ability in the country.

The learners whose talent shone through were Jason Taylor (grade 11), Amber Daniel (grade 10), Jane Johnson (grade nine), Gaby Bruton (grade 11), McKenzie Meyer (grade eight), Ntsako Silinda (grade 10), Shantel Muyambo (grade 10), Josh Clarke (grade 10), Lele Maelane (grade 11) and Michael Booysen (grade 10).

The exhibition is set to run for two weeks and the art lining the gallery walls is sure to be a hit with connoisseurs who will no doubt stop to appreciate the Lowveld talent on display.
