Update on Vernon Kruger, the world record keeper for up on the pole
The weather lately has been horrible for Vernon Kruger, who has been on top of a pole in a barrel for a month now.
Earlier this week there were suggestions of Kruger not completing the challenge due to lack of funding. As if that was not bad enough, he has not seen the sun for more than a week. The conditions in the barrel are cold and misty, with loads of rain.
Despite all of this, Kruger keeps his spirit up by reminding himself of the reason he is doing this: raising much-needed funds for charities. On his Facebook page, Up on a Pole in Dullstroom, he expressed time and again that he was not only doing this for the record or for himself, but for the charities for which he was raising funds.
Thanks to local sponsors, he is dressed, has skin care treatments and is being fed. Unfortunately Steelburger/Lydenburg News was not able to speak to him this week, but according to his latest videos, the weather is starting to take its toll on him. Please go to his page and give him a shout-out for encouragement. With the festive season approaching, he will surely appreciate the messages. Also keep an eye out to see if and how he will decorate his barrel for the festive season.
Vernon shares videos on his Facebook page almost daily, so do yourself a favour and watch his videos to get some insight of what it is like living 23 metres above ground in a wine barrel.
