Members of DAWN reach out to Nkomazi women

Men insist on intercourse before they pay maintenance

MALALANE – Early in January, Cllr Mariette Preddy of the DA and Annerie Weber, member of parliament from Middelburg, paid a visit to the women of the Stentor Estates settlement east of Malalane.

One of the many issues discussed was the fact that women have children with men who then leave them for other women. If they request maintenance from the fathers, these men insist on having intercourse with them again before they give them money. This creates a snowball effect, because most of them do not use contraceptives and get pregnant again.

The DA Women’s Network, or DAWN, undertook to assist these women to address this abuse. Clothing and food were also distributed among the women attending this meeting.
Any donations of any sort will be most welcome, and the public can contact Preddy on 082-940-0686 to collect.
