The suspect was arrested while the truck and goods were taken to the SARS Customs Warehouse for safekeeping.

KOMATIPOORT – Gibson Mutero (46) appeared in the local Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday January 14 after he had been arrested by members of the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit in Mpumalanga with Lebombo border police and Customs and Excise at Lebombo Port of Entry.

He entered the country at the Lebombo Border Post earlier this week in a Volvo truck with two trailers with counterfeit goods to the value of R3,3 million hidden under sawdust.

Upon searching the truck, the team managed to uncover a series of branded sneakers, sandals, school bags and jeans. The brands include, among others, Nike, Adidas, Puma and Redbat.
