Petition for pet owners in Marloth Park

Owners are invited to vote if they want domestic pets in Marloth

The Nkomazi Local Municipality (NLM) sent a petition to all property owners of this holiday town to confirm if they do own domestic pets, and if they do want cats and dogs to freely coexist with the wild animals.

Marloth Park, bordering the Kruger National Park, was promulgated in 1977 as a holiday township and not a full residential township. Due to its biodiversity and unique fauna and flora, special legislative prescripts were made applicable specifically to Marloth Park in order to protect the status quo.

The issue of domestic pets become one of the critical challenges to be addressed as directed by a court order in 2018. In complying with the court order, NLM has to weigh the need to keep the wild animals in Marloth Park versus the need to allow Marloth Park property owners to keep their pets in the same space as the wild animals.
NLM will incorporate the results of the petition into the new policy. The majority views of the property owners will tilt the scale towards the new policy direction. Owners have time to email their votes to NLM before January 31.
