Mob justice ends alleged thief’s death

An alleged criminal's luck ran out when he was cornered by a mob and beaten to death.

The incident happened on Friday in Madiseng’s Mashemong section.

According to the Limpopo SAPS, a 30-year-old man from Bothashoek was allegedly caught red-handed stealing from a house in Madiseng.

“The Tubatse SAPS are investigating a murder case, after community members assaulted an African man to death. The community members alleged that the deceased was found stealing from a few houses around the village and they caught him and started beating him.

“During the time the suspect was assaulted, he was allegedly in possession of some stolen items. He died at the crime scene,” Limpopo SAPS spokesman, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, revealed. He said two suspects, aged 24 and 36, were arrested in connection with the murder on Tuesday and investigations were still continuing. The suspects were scheduled to appear before the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. The Limpopo SAPS condemned the incident, and urged the communities to report criminal cases and to refrain from taking the law into their own hands
