KLCBT confirms Panorama Route is open and safe for motorists and tourists

Linda Grimbreek of the Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism (KLCBT) assured tourists that there is no need to avoid the Panorama Route.

“No violence or prolonged blockages of gates will ever be tolerated.  KLCBT will insist on a court interdict to open the sites, and demand the arrest of the instigators if any public threats were to be made or the moment any act of violence should occur,” said Grimbeek. This follows the statement issued by the Freedom Front Plus, warning tourists not to enter the Panaroma Route due to safety concerns during protest action by MTPA employees.

Grimbreek confirmed that all the sites were open and accessible to visitors and that the protest had no indication of violence. She commended the MTPA management for doing a remarkable job of negotiating with the union.

“Kruger Lowveld Tourism is running 11 WhatsApp groups to inform the travel trade of any dangers as soon as they arise, which aids to divert people to alternative sites and roads in case of blockages,“ said Grimbeek.

“There are a multitude of attractions and stunning small towns that can be enjoyed even when some of the popular sites are inaccessible or when the weather is bad and the views are not as good as on sunny days,” continued Grimbreek.

Motorists and tourists of Mpumalanga warned to avoid popular route

This follows after employees of the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) closed down and barricaded entrances to several of the most popular tourist destinations on the route as part of their protest action.
These sites include the Three Rondavels, God’s Window and Blydepoort Dam.  According to sources, the MTPA employees have been striking since last week.
The protests have the potential of turning violent. It can escalate quickly without any notice beforehand, and this can disrupt traffic, transport and other services on that road, the statement read.
The Freedom Front Plus recommended that motorists and tourists make use of alternative routes until the protest action has settled down.
At this stage entrances to the various waterfalls in the area are still accessible.
