Military presence will now be felt in Burgersfort

The Lions Rock area now have a few more residence, men and woman from the SANDF camped amidst the people making sure rules and regulations are adhered to.

BURGERSFORT – Members of the Phalaborwa SANDF arrived in town with sirens blaring.
The peace and quiet in the suburb, Lions Rock, was disturbed when traffic, SAPS and multiple
specialised military vehicles drove through the neighbourhood towards the cul-de-sac in Kgopa
Street.

Steelburger/Lydenburg News spoke to a police official, Karel Beetge, on the scene where he confirmed that the defence force will camp nearby. “They are here to make sure people stick to the rules of the lockdown,” said Beetge.

The team is from Phalaborwa and will spend an undisclosed amount of time in the area, ensuring
that the rules and regulations of the lockdown are adhered to, and to encourage individuals to make
informed decisions.

A journalist on the scene spoke to members of the public curiously waiting for information. After a
quick update, some residents claimed that, after one week of lockdown, they were still not aware
that they would only be allowed to leave their homes in case of emergencies or to purchase
essential items. Upon hearing that only one person at a time was allowed to travel, they seemed
shocked.
