City of Mbombela Municipality launches solidarity fund and food bank

The fund will assist vulnerable community members.

The City of Mbombela, lead by the executive mayor SP Mathonsi, is the first in Mpumalanga to establish the Municipal Solidarity Fund, which was launched today.

Various stakeholders including Nedbank supported this initiative.

The city appointed a board of 12 members from various sectors to assist in overseeing the solidarity fund as trustees.

The aim of this fund is to collect donations from various stakeholders and partners. These donations will then be channelled as relief measures to vulnerable and deserving community members of Mbombela.

The City said today’s launch witnessed ground-breaking donations from Nedbank, the Muslim community and the Somali business community. These groups came together and left behind food parcels to be distributed throughout the city to needy households.
