Support needed for snake project

To trace the movement of snakes that are captured and released in this bush town, plans are underway to start the process of microchipping these reptiles.

The research will take place under the guidance of Dr Hannes Botha of Marloth Park Ratepayers Association.

Juan de Beer of Juan’s Reptile Rescue, a local snake catcher and enthusiast, will take the lead and undertake the implantations.

Scientific research on seven reptile species will be done by means of microchipping the animals a research rescue, enabling statics on each one with regards to sex, length, and weight as well as geo-print of capture and release.

This information will be extremely valuable in order to determine whether the same reptile has been recaptured, thus keeping track of populations within specific areas of Marloth Park.

De Beer has assisted many Onderberg residents in past at no cost and is there in the blink of an eye when he is needed.

Residents are therefore urged to support him in this endeavour.
