Transport regulations updated under lockdown alert level 2
The new directive amends the current regulations so that private vehicles are permitted to carry their maximum licensed passenger capacity.

Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula updated the transport regulations after consultation with the Cabinet members responsible for cooperative governance and traditional affairs, health, police, justice and correctional services, trade, industry and competition. The updates were gazetted on September 2, 2020.
Under the new directive, the current regulations are amended so that private vehicles are permitted to carry their maximum licensed passenger capacity. The directive also allows tourist transport services to resume.
Direction 12 was amended as follows:
“12. Long- distance rail services
(1) All long- distance rail services, both public and private operations, are permitted.
(2) Shosholoza Meyl, Premier Classe, Blue Train and private rail operators such as Rovos Rail, may resume domestic services.”
In addition, all public transport operating licences and accreditation certificates for tourist and charter transport services which expired from 26 March 2020 up to and including 31 August 2020 are still valid and their validity is extended for an additional six months, ending on February 28, 2021.
