Curro Nelspruit applauds the results of the 2020 matrics

Curro Nelspruit has congratulated its class of 2020 on its matric results following the recent release of the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) exam results with a total of 92,9 per cent of Curro Nelspruit learners qualifying for university.

In a statement by Curro Nelspruit, Curro Holdings CEO Andries Greyling said the IEB results from the pupils “are truly an extraordinary achievement taking into account the immense pressure they were under as a result of Covid-19”.

“Our 2020 matrics have certainly outdone themselves.

“We are extremely proud and delighted that the matric class of 2020’s results reflect our entire school’s commitment to ‘The Journey to Better’.

“The results again reflect an improvement on the previous years’ matric results. There were four A aggregates and 27 B aggregates,”” said Greyling. He added that 85,9% of the learners achieved a C aggregate or higher.

According to executive head of Curro Nelspruit, Michael Bownes, there were 118 subject distinctions representing an average of 1,39 distinctions per candidate.

“These statistics reflect a remarkable achievement of both staff and matrics in arguably the most difficult of school years that was 2020. Covid-19 did not conquer our matric class of 2020.

“We salute them and their remarkable teachers,” said Bownes.

He added that he believes it was Curro Nelspruit’s quick transition to a remote-learning strategy during the initial lockdown that helped secure 2020’s academic success.

“The last academic year posed great uncertainty, but none of 2020’s challenges were greater than a full move towards the virtual classroom in your final school year,” he said.

“Our teachers and staff also need to be commended for the professional dedication shown towards our remote-learning strategy. Without everyone’s commitment and our parents’ unwavering support, we simply would not have been able to show this level of academic success,” Bownes said.
