Fikile Mbalula monitors the progress of Karino Interchange

On Friday the minister of transport, Fikile Mbalula, paid a visit to the site where the new Karino Interchange on the N4 is being constructed.

It was done in partnership with the South African National Roads Agency and Trans African Concessions (TRAC). The aim of the visit was to monitor and inspect the progress on major infrastructure project upgrades along the N4 in Mpumalanga.

The initiative was launched in 2019.

“There were some delays, although the project is progressing quite well. We are on track. The main delays were caused by communities and people who were seeking to be part of the programme,” he explained.

Mbalula highlighted that 750 000 kilometres of road in the country are its economic arteries.

On the recovery plan, R19 billion has been allocated to road projects throughout South Africa.
