Second arrest in KaBokweni CIT heist case
The Mpumalanga Hawks have made a second arrest following the cash-in-transit heist in KaBokweni in April.
The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit arrested Lucky Surprise Maseko (24) on Wednesday after he had been linked to the heist, which involved alleged murder and theft of motor vehicles on April 16.

A statement by the provincial Hawks spokesperson, Capt Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi, said Maseko was taken to the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court where he was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on June 4 for formal bail application.
Sekgotodi said group of armed men stormed a cash truck outside a service station in KaBokweni on April 16, when security guards were busy loading bags.

“The suspects allegedly fired several shots, fatally wounding the driver. They allegedly grabbed several bags and fled the scene in a white BMW and a grey Toyota Hilux bakkie,” said Sekgotodi.
“It was later confirmed that the bags the suspects had taken contained stationery, and that no money was stolen.”
She said the Hawks tracked the vehicles used during the heist to the garage of a house at Mahushu in Masoyi just a few days after the incident.
“It was discovered the bakkie was stolen in Matsulu and the BMW was hijacked in KaNyamazane.

“The owner of the house, Sydney Mokoena (41), was arrested and charged for possession of suspected stolen vehicles on April 18, and was later linked to the cash-in-transit heist.
He appeared in court on April 20 and was remanded in custody until June 4, where he will be joined by his co-accused, Maseko.
