Car crash on N4 kills four family members and one unidentified person

According to Moeti Mmusi, the spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Success Nukeri, Betty Masemola, Mashango Shabangu and Vincent Shabangu, all four related to one another, died when the driver of the vehicle had lost control. “The name of the fifth person is still unknown and we do not have any information about them yet. The other four were related and they will be laid to rest over the weekend,” he said.

“The vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a tree when they were driving towards Mbombela. Three males and one female, one of them the driver, died on the scene. The fifth person was only critically injured and was rushed to a nearby hospital in Mbombela, where he later died. They were all placed in a government mortuary at Themba Hospital,” Mmusi said.

In a statement, the MEC for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe, urged motorists to use roads cautiously.

“We need more responsible driving on the roads, because the trend of deadly crashes on weekends, especially at night, is worrisome. We want motorists to hear our messages and drive with greater caution at all times.” He sent his condolences to the bereaved families and wished those who were injured a speedy recovery.
