SAPS service centres stand in for Covid-closed stations

All the communities serviced by the Hazyview Police Station were advised that it had to be temporarily closed due to a member who had tested positive for Covid-19 on September 1.

The police immediately informed the people of Hazyview that the community service centre was prepared for this situation.

The centre was operational at the Lowveld Mall next to Shoprite. The citizens could call a number provided to them for all emergencies and complaints that would be attended to accordingly.

On Friday September 3, the Hazyview Police Station was successfully decontaminated and fully functional again.
The citizens of Hazyview were impressed with the smooth planning and preparation the police implemented.

According to Col Donald Mdhluli, the provincial police spokesperson, the SAPS under the Department of Health was following all health protocols regarding Covid-19 to protect all employees of the organisation as well as members of the public served by these officers.

“Although there is continuous interaction due to the nature of the service rendered, there are possibilities of Covid-19 reported, but the SAPS has put a system in place to mitigate this by ensuring that members are always wearing the masks that were supplied to them by the state. Members are also supplied with personal protective equipment to protect themselves and others.

“Since Covid-19 entered South Africa, the police planned and prepared for community service centres in case a police station is affected by the virus. This was important, because there is no possibility for the police to not be available for the public,” said Mdhluli.
