Mpumalanga MECs for health and education monitor vaccination site progress
On Monday, the MEC for the Department of Education, Bonakele Majuba, said he was encouraged by the high level of willingness of learners to protect themselves and those around them by getting vaccinated.

As of September 6, about 725 137 people had received the Covid-19 vaccine in Mpumalanga. As of September 7, 249 new Covid-19 cases and 1 898 cases of death were recorded.
According to a report by the provincial Department of Health, 146 949 positive cases are recorded. On Monday, the MEC for the Department of Education, Bonakele Majuba, said he was encouraged by the high level of willingness of learners to protect themselves and those around them by getting vaccinated.
“Learners who are 18 and older did so by voluntarily showing up at their respective schools that served as vaccination centres, to take the jab. This vaccination drive was made possible through the collaboration between the departments of education and health.”
Majuba visited Lethabong Secondary School where he monitored the programme. “We wish to encourage all deserving learners to take advantage of this vaccination process to protect themselves, their families and communities.”

As part of monitoring Covid-19 vaccinations, the MEC for the Department of Health, Sasekani Manzini, has been visiting various sites. On Monday she visited the Embhuleni Traditional Office vaccination site at Elukwatini in the Albert Luthuli Local Municipality. On September 2, Manzini visited the University of Mpumalanga’s Siyabuswa Campus in the Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality.

“This is to further intensify the provincial vaccination programme and encourage the 18-year-olds and all eligible people to come forth to be vaccinated, beat the virus and develop population immunity towards Covid-19.”

The Department of Health has now opened vaccination sites in various areas in the province. In Ehlanzeni District, the vaccination sites administering the Pfizer vaccine are Barberton Hospital, Mapulaneng Hospital, Rob Ferreira Hospital, Sabie Hospital and Shongwe Hospital. Those administering the J&J vaccine are Matikwana Hospital, Sabie Hospital, South African Military Health Services (Nelspruit Support Base), Themba Hospital and Tintswalo Hospital.
