First Rooikat Knockout Cup is a great success for all
The friendly competition consisted of 15-minutes-a-side rounds during which only the winning team would advance to the next round.
Rooikat Liquors and AB Inbev Brewing Company invited 13 taverns around Mpumalanga and parts of Gauteng to compete in the friendly mini soccer tournament at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.
The matches were played on the B field and the final was played inside the stadium. The taverns had the opportunity to bring their best players to the sport event to represent their tavern and to play for the prize money of R20 000.

Each of the 13 teams represented a brand of the SAB, and Rooikat Liquors, AB Inbev and the Mbombela Stadium each had their own team, which made it a total of 16 teams for the friendly tournament.
The friendly competition consisted of 15-minutes-a-side rounds during which only the winning team would advance to the next round. Five players including the goalie were on a team and the matches were played on half a field.

The winning tavern of the day was the Rockerfellas Bar (representing Castle Lite) which defeated Adams Tavern (representing Hansa Pilsner). Soccer outfits were given to the taverns’ players from Rooikat Liquors and AB Inbev, and Rooibaard attended the day to provide lunch. Rooikat Liquors had water, energy drinks and beer ready for the players as they enjoyed the matches and atmosphere at the stadium.
“The first Rooikat Knockout Cup event went off smoothly as everyone enjoyed the day and the taverns provided skillful players that kept the losing teams on their feet as the matches went on. We will definitely host another event like this as we plan on having one once a year,” said Charl Breytenbach, co-owner of Rooikat Liquors.
