Shongwe Royal Family legally appoints new induna

The Matsamo Shongwe Royal Family legally titled a family member, Schoolboy EL Shongwe, as the induna of Jeppes Reef on Sunday October 3.

This event was attended by community members of Jeppes Reef and Nkomazi in particular, and included 14 headmen as well as some from eSwatini who also represented the Shongwe traditional leadership of Matsamo.

The Matsamo tribal office and council paid a visit to be part of the crowning event, which was first held at the headman’s house and later moved to Sisini Primary School.

The day was proudly sponsored by well-known Malelane businessman Lex Hollmann of Malelane SPAR, members of the Headmen Council and the Shongwe Royal Family themselves.

The royal family are descendants of the historical Swazi tribe, and of the warrior Matsamo Shongwe who had 30 wives in his tenure. The Shongwe Royal Family has a good relationship with the Kingdom of eSwatini since he had to marry the Shongwe women and made them his wives long ago. The Shongwe family has a royal bloodline from the Dlamini Kingdom of eSwatini.

The Matsamo Shongwe Royal Family is the only one that has a vast amount of land in Nkomazi and a piece of land in eSwatini.
