Young equestrian riders make their mark
For two young local equestrians, horseback riding has become more than just a hobby,
Mauritz (12) and Chandré (10) Stander participated in the South African National Equestrian Schools Association (Sanesa). It took place at Kyalami Equestrian Park from October 2 to 9, during the recent school holiday.
They are both learners at Laerskool Lydenburg. Sanesa dedicates itself to promoting all forms of equestrian sport within the South Africa’s schools’ community. Their parents, Jandré and Karin Stander, saw Chandré had a lot of potential a few years ago when she taught herself to jump over an obstacle.
Chandré and her horse, Snoopy, competed in performance riding, working rider class, equitation, and
showjumping.

She won a gold medal in the working rider class. Mauritz, on his horse Saluki, also competed in
performance riding, working rider class, and showjumping.
He won a silver medal in the working rider class and received a trophy for finishing the closest to the ideal time allocated for riders in this class.
“We are very excited about what the future holds for these two riders,” said Marjorie Greyling, vice chairperson of Sanesa Mpumalanga.
